I got my new vortex cdi from rath racing today. I was surprised that there is not really any information on the 10 different settings. I have read several posts on this forum from those of you who have this...has anyone found out which settings work the best? do you actually use the handlebar switch? thanks, Gary

I use mine for moto x racing. I switch back and forth between setting 0 (a pretty good general poweband that is much better than stock) and 7 (which seems to be very high revving with lots of mid and upper range power). BTW, settings 8 and 9 did not work out so well for trails or moto x. They didn't seem to have the bottom end but they sure screamed at the top end. Probably good for dunes and such.

Can you switch the curves on the fly? I was considering buying one if I could get more bottom end with it. Can I switch from the bottem end curves to the mid to top curves while going down the trail?

Bot,

yes you can switch on the fly. you can set it up how you like and then while riding use the handlebar switch and use two different curves.

is it really worth it to buy the vortex it doesnt really seem all that important to fork out that kinda money for over other motor mods

So I just read about the box on Rath's site... it ups the limiter to 9150?? And stock is 9005. That's not a huge improvement. What happened with all these dyno reports where power was still building steadily when the stock limiter hit? Seems to me the limit should be 10k-10.5k in order to take advantage of that.

That sure does not sound like much. But on the other hand, in real world use it seems to add a whole lot more than that. I really like the "base" or 0 setting which is similar to the stock map but with what appears to me to be about a 25% increase in power. I can certainly tell the difference on the track and I almost never hit the rev limiter when racing anymore. I use the 7 setting on starts. I never have to get any taller than 2nd gear before the first turn. It makes the gears much taller. I would say it adds at least as much as the polaris wb slip on silencer with K&N drop in. I wouldn't take it off of my quad now that I have it on.

Rob,
I was wondering what the stock rev limiter was set at....where did you hear it was 9005? that extra 145 rpm wouldnt do anything. I think maybe the stocker is less than 9000, Im just not sure. who knows for sure?

I think Rob and Troy are right. Thats a lot of $$$ But than I hav'nt riden on a mach with it. I glad you like it BassMan, keep us update on it. At the same time I think it's B/S that it does'nt come with more info on the settings. Maybe you can call Rath up and ask him.

I'd have to disagree with the service manual about the rev-limiter being set to 9005 rpms, mine would never even hit 8750rpms without the vortex, therfor, making it very well worth the $400. Think about it, why would the vortex offer a setting for 8900rpms with the stock curve if the bike could rev past that stock?

My mapping was customised to------

7x9450 rpm rev limit

1x8900

1x9150

1x10100

I could try to get the owner of vortex "Richard" to answer your questions on this site if that can work with Rob and you guys, let me know what you think.

Thanks from down under, Geoff.

that would be awesome, because in the instructions it only says...perf. map, perf. map, traction map, traction map, etc.

thanks, Gary
