Hi, just thought I'd test this new forum with a new thread. Since a new filter and o-ring were not available to me from any local dealers, I reused my old o-ring and got a K&N #113 filter. Everything seemed to fit fine and I'm not leaking any oil anywhere. Anybody have any ideas on how many times a person could reuse the o-ring as long as I can't get ahold of one?

I replaced it on the 3rd oil change cuz it was starting to look a little shabby. I would say every 3 changes to be safe. There doesnt seem to be any need to change it every time. A visual inspection should tell you if its ok or not. Keep a new one on-hand and then compare.

I have yet to replace mine and it still looks good as new. No leaks either. I just did my third oil change recently, total of about 30 hours on the machine so far.

As an 8 year aircraft mechanic, i found that unless the 0-ring is cut, torn or otherwise destroyed, it really depends on how old the o-ring is. Even if it is only the first oil change, if the o-ring was old when first installed then it will be harder then a fresh one and will take a set quicker. As long as the rubber is still soft then you shouldn't have a problem. If the rubber feels hard or it is flattened out then replace it.

I think it would help switching it out each oil change. I was able to get 2 from my dealer so I'm going to try a 3 way rotation and see. Like is stated above as long as they are not damaged they shouldn't be too bad.

Then again with the way I ride lately it might take 3 to 6 months to rack up 10 hours for me. :)

The 400ex filter works? Is this for sure?

Yeah, my dealer is now selling the Fram filter for the 400EX/XR400 as an alternate to the Polaris filter. Oh and get this... while the Polaris filter only includes the filter itself, the Fram one INCLUDES THE O-RING! Go figure.

Me, I'd still rather use the Polaris one. I don't mind using Fram on my Jeep, but I think I'd rather have a better filer on a high performance quad.

BTW, I have yet to change my O-Ring and no leaks.

Do you know the part number of the fram filter for the 400ex?

Hi John,

I don't know the part #'s for the Fram or the Honda brand, but the 400EX definately does work. I didn't know the Fram comes with a new o-ring..that's kinda cool and a great tip from Rob...I used the Honda Brand 400EX filter for my last change, and it was only about $5.00, compared to $7.something for the "Polaris" brand filter...WHICH NO ONE HAD!!!!! I'm just going to stick with the Honda brand...they're a decent quality, and more affordable.

I needed a new o-ring after my last change, but one was not available, just like the Polaris brand oil filters!! Mine had just a little weeping at the o-ring, not a real leak...but I don't like that. It just pisses me off so bad that Polaris puts out a pretty good first year hi-po quad, but then lets us all down in many bad ways with stuff like parts availability for oil, filters, and gaskets. And their "Shuffle you here and there" attitude when you call the factory to fuss at them...Well, I'm vented now and boy do I fell better!!

John, you might try Parker Yamaha on the web...they are close to us here in CA and they have a really great staff..great prices, and a very good selection of Polaris parts...except I think I bought all 9 of the oil filter cover gaskets they had in stock!!! But you could try them...

Hey, silly question probably, but do you ride a Glamis alot? If so, mail me at [email protected] and maybe we can set a meet..if my jetting changes get worked out by Friday, I'll probably go this weekend...

Take care,

JJ
