I just put on a 13 tooth front sprocket. Whoa! 3rd 4th and 5th just scream. Heres my question. Will adding a 39 tooth to the rear over gear it at all? I mainly ride trails, drag race and play in the sand.

Thanx again Rob great forum...i bet this forum is going to get huge!

dependes how fast you like to go, on tight trails you will love it, but on straightaways, you will find that you top out long before you want to. how long is you drag races distance wise. i find that i top out before the race is over and get blown away at the end by the competition, but we race about 300 yards and most people on the forum seem to race much shorter distances. i run 13 and 40, which is close to what you want to do by the way - james

Has anybody checked thier top speed with a relativley stock predator and 13-37 gearing? My pred is stock and I want to gear down a little but I would like to know how much speed I will lose.

I like flying down the straights when I get to (almost never). I also race a raptor all the way to top speed and dont want to lose too many mph there. Thanks.

Thanks for the chart jeepman

OK- So lets take a look at this, stock you would be able to hit 82mph if you had the power. Has anybody left the stock gearing and added a pipe, filter, and whatever else and then actually gotten a top speed around that? I almost remember hearing somebody say they had a modded pred up to around 80 and when I am topped out I am not at the rev limiter so it sounds plausible.

Gear Max Speed

14-37: 82mph

13-37: 76mph

14-40: 76mph

13-40: 70.5

A stock pred tops out around 72-76 based on reports from people checking with radar and gps, if you gear down to 13-37 you should be able to hit the same top speed (or very close) but be at the rev limiter (higher rpms). It is not possible with the stock CDI to exceed the speeds in this chart but you also need to have enough power to top out fifth gear.

Conclusion: I am going to try that 13t front sprocket, with a pipe and filter I should be able to maintain very close to the same top speed as stock.

some people were sayiong that they were actually hitting this speed without doing mods. i can believe that if they are near sea level. i am at 5000 feet and with just a pipe and air box mod with k+n, i could tap the rev limiter after a long straight, also this chart is only good with 21 inch rear tires - james

That is what im going with now is 13/38. I didnt really care to mess with all the trouble of what im hearing about sprocket specialist, and not wanting to blow to much money with sidewinder. So i just ordered a red 38 tooth sprocket to go with my front 13 tooth.
