I haven't been able to tune out the popping on my friend's predator. set the float, tried different jets, different amounts of plates in the exhaust, etc... oyea, the airforce kit too. just for the hell of it, i ran it without the airbox hooked up(open carb), and WOW!!! ran like i've never seen it run before. i went down one size on the jet, and put the airbox back in, and started popping again. i think he's going to go to a k&n clamp on, but anyone have any other ideas? it can be wet where we ride.

Thanks
Rob

Mine popped when the bike was running too rich. If you have an aftermarket pipe, just go back to the 150 main and try that. if you remember where the float was put it back. My guess is your running too rich.

Mine was runing rich and popping also after I put the pure polaris pipe on it that you supposidly can run on a stock setup. I opened up the airbox with the Rath kit and a K&N filter and had to install an additonal 6 of the 1 inch vents to get it to run right. I went up to a 157.5 main and I think a 50 pilot and it runs good. I think a direct K&N would probably allow me to go up a little more on the main. I'm going to run it for awhile before I go that route. These modes improved the power considerably. I'm at 4,500 elevation.

it's bizarre. 2 predators, bought from the same store, running next to each other. both have air force kits. one pops, one doesn't. same jetting, etc.. the one that pops has the float set right. i tried jetting down and up. we started with the pipe and stock carb and jets. i think the way to go will be the direct k&n. it ran right with no airbox.. screamed all the way up. no idea what elevation i'm at. nj, so prob not very high.

Mine was breaking up really bad on the top end, with the jetting set perfect. I tried every possible combo i could think of. Up jets, down jets, more and less discs, K&N in, K&N out, all at different needle positions. It even popped when it was lean(not nearly as bad, but it did). fact is, i couldent get it not to break up on top, so i have a Vortex on the way from Duncan Racing. I just hope it helps.

I put my Pure Polaris on with the K&N drop in, jetted up to 152.5 then 157.5, popped like hell. got a Clamp on K&N with outerwears, jetted up to a 170 main, went back to 6 discs, still popped bad. I finally decided to adjust the float level, I adjusted it for a little more gas in the float and that helped out alot. It still pops but it's very tolerable, not nearly as bad as before. I think I may be running a bit rich for these hot summer months cause it backfires sometimes, think i'll go down to a 165 and see what happens. Adjust your float, it helped me alot.

When you say you adjusted the float for more fuel in the float, what does that mean? Stock setting is like 13mm... did you increase or decrease that measurement? :)

If you move the float up a little, it will require more fuel in the bowl before the float cut it off, if you move it up too far, fuel will drain out of the vent hose constantly. If the float is down too far, there migh not be enough fuel in the bowl, causing it the pop and sputter until you let off.

How do I go about adjusting the float? (turn screw, etc.) I only need to move it up a skoche if that's the problem. If that is the solution, will I be able to adjust it enough to tune out the popping? I'm putting a lot of fuel into the engine with a 170 main.

Thanx

Bend the tab on the float where it contacts the needle..
