Anyone using the palaris replacement sprockets? how good of quality are they? i wanna go up one tooth in the rear and was thinking about getting the red polaris sprocket! any info would be great.
I had a couple of the red 38 tooth sprockets from the pure polaris website, I sold them and never ran them, but they looked like a decent sprocket, heavy, but they would probably last, sidewinder makes top notch sprockets, they are a bit pricey, but last a-lot longer than anyone elses stuff.
I just put around 100 miles on my pred this weekend and LOVE the 13t front sprocket! The trails ranged from quick pace to balls to the wall, I didnt feel shorted at the top end at all. I about topped it out a few times and went looking for that sixth gear once but I didnt need to go any faster, I was already pushing the limits. No more bogging the motor at all, MUCH easier to keep it revving and get that rip your arms off power hit. I love this thing!
i just ordered the red 38 tooth rear, it should be here friday. how many mph's will i loose off the top end? im kinda worried that my top speed isnt going to be any better than a z. my z runs about 5mph slower on top end than my pred. the only reason i beat it so bad in a drag is becaus of that meaty third gear i was thinking of putting a 13 tooth front on but i dont want a z to e able to catch me even if we go five miles down a straight streach wide open. theres too many coky bastards around here with z's and i cant ever let one beat me in any way or ill never here the end of it!
My riding buddies give me hell because they can beat me on my 400 drag racing. Once in the woods it is another story. I bust out ahead of them and stop and wait, I am rested while they are tired. So I guess my point is what kinda riding you doing open trails wfo, or tight wooded trails like around here that is what should help you decide on the gears to run.
we ride pretty tight trail. i know that i can whip them in the woods, but there always THAT GUY, that when he beats you on a straight streach, tells everyone his is faster and then ya hear the ****! i think im going to just stick with the 38 rear and leave it at that.
well, i just put the 38 on the rear. it didn't make a huge difference, but it keeps the r right where i want em. it made the front seem a little lighter too! it was worth the money in my opinion.
Im currently running a 13/38. I do love it and i hate it type of thing. I put it on when i didnt have any engine mods done, now i got exhaust K&N and modified the air box i will be going back to a 14 up front i will keep the 38 in the rear. It is good in a drag and woods are awesome, and also for sand. But i have acres of open groud.
i was kinda wondering about this the other day. From what i have read the predator can, at the rev limiter, do 82 mph. But the engine can usually pull the quad to about 75 mph. So if you do a 38 tooth rear and left the front alone, wouldnt you just be getting up to that 75 mph barrier quicker and possible going over that because of its ability to pull 5th easier with a 38 rear and a 14 tooth up front. LOL sorry if i lost some of you i could be way out in left field.
I was thinkin the same thing, from a 14 to 13 front the mph should drop 6mph but I couldnt hit that top rpm before so the change might only be 3mph. All I know is that it screams and its way easier to keep it revved where I want it now.
i all actuality, you can keep dropping gear ratios until you hit the rev limiter without losing top speed and maybe even raise speed since the engine can rev more freely. once you have modded the engine and it has the power to pull to rev limiter, then dropping gears hurts top speed. by the way i was running 14/40, which is the same basic ratio as 13/37 and still outrun the z400 on top speed both in the dunes and on pavement - james
