I've just adde the clamp on (RU-1770) and have the Outerwears on the way (WR125-6t I believe). I rejeted with a 170 main and 50 pilot. And thanks to even more adivce from others I replaced the 4mm x 10mm float bowl screw w/ allen screws (a must I might add). My question is that when I stab the gas off of idle it dies. You have to work it up a bit before going full throtte. I'm thinking of dropping the needle one clip to see if that helps. I'm I looking in the right direction to resolve this? I haven't had to deal w/ carbs in a while. Between my RC51, TL100 and VTX1800 I just plug my laptop and program it. I just love fuel injection. I haven't dealt w/ carbs in years, and then it was multi-cylinder bikes (a much bigger pain in the arse).

moving the needle will help, also pull the top off the carb, cut about 5 coils off the spring, and drill out the diaphram holes to 1/8 inch, i did that on mine and its really good poping from the start, though sometimes it needs to be warmed up then it screams. are you running an aftermarket pipe? if not the 170 main might be flooding you out too much. i had the 165 and slip on, was a little rich, down to a 162.5 now seems to be really close, with stock pipe.

Alright...couldn't wait so I went with I knew...and then after I couldn't find a place to plug my laptop into the quad I dropped the needle one clip and it seems to have taken care of the issue. I'll test more extensively tommorrow. As long as I've gotten the work done I think I'm going to put together a short instruction manual if there is any intrest from those that haven't done anything like this before. We seem to see the same questions over and over.

I am thinking about adding a drop in k&n and WB slip on somtime and have never dealt with carb jetting, any instruction manual you put together would be a help!

im also carb stupid, but i just decided what the heck and just went with it the other day. basically, unhook thew carb from the engine and airbox, then after you take the 3 clear plastic lines off, you should be able to twist it enough to get to the bottom of it. you need to take the 4 screws off the bottom to get the fuel bowl off. these are phillips head screws and are tight enough that they want to strip out before you can get them loose. i just used a vise grip to grab them just enough to break them loose then used the phillips to take them off the rest of the way. once the fuel bowl is off(and i hope you turned off the fuel)you will seea jet and a tube with another jet down inside of it. the jet in the open is the pilot and should be about a size 50. the jet inside the tube is the main and should be about a 150. change both these out for whatever you feel you need, i have heard of many different setups, so i couldn't tell you what you will want, then put it all back together. it will take a while for the machine to start because the fuel pump will need to fill the bowl back up before the carb gets any fuel - james
