Hello All,
Riding the logging trails and rough creekbeds, i notice that my steering shaft feels incredibly loose. I have inspected each bolt in the front end and have found no loose connections. The front steering bushing, (the thing that says PRO steering on it), has been replaced due to a stripped bolt in assembly. I have had the dealer check the ball joints out, and they said that the ball joints are in excellent condition, and are all the newer (sturdy) ball joints.
Nevertheless, i have a wobble in the steering shaft that only occurs when the tires are not on level terrain. I can have the bike sideways full out on flat lands and feel nothing, but as soon as i pick up a tire or drop a tire off level, i feel the wobble. I have inspected all the tie rods, a arms, and steering shaft and can find no play. I have done the ball joint check (trying to check the play in the wheels), and found nothing. My bike didnt feel this loose when i bought it. It has about 18 hours on it, pretty rough ones at that. Is this just normal wear, or do i really have a problem? I would like to have it fixed before my 6 mo warranty runs out.
Thanks
Jay Azevedo

I noticed the same thing last weekend and checked everything you did and came up with nothing. Beats me. It felt like the steering stem was loose at the bottom or something.

I remember a post that I think was at this forum about a guy who had the same problems, I remember him saying it was the stem nut on the bottom. The only way they found it was to take the wieght off the front suspension and this would allow the steering stem to move around. It had somethin to do with that pro-steering plate and how the stem seated in it. Duno guys, but the wobble shouldn't be there.

Thanks for the info. That part was just replaced on my bike however. I did notice that it went away for a time when i tightened the shocks up on my front end.
Ill check out that bolt, maybe it worked itself loose after they reassembled it.
Thanks
Jay
