Hello. I am getting a quad in a couple of weeks but still cannot decide between LTZ 400 ($8600 CDN after taxes) or Predator ($9600 CDN after taxes) or YFZ 450 ($10600 CDN after taxes). Can anyone give me an unbiased opinion? I am mainly going to use it to ride trails but would like to possibly race it either cross country or mx. Help!

Given what you said you want to do with it, I think the Predator is your best choice. The YFZ isn't well suited for trails, and the Z400 is just plain slow no matter how you look at it. I've drag raced Z400s that have been HEAVILY modified (as in $2000-3000 in mods) and STILL beat them pretty badly with a stock/piped Predator.

i have i friend with the z400 and i have the pred, we ride together jsut about every day and have traded bikes. the z400 is a smaller, lighter bike than the pred, even though this sounds good, the pred has much more torque and better suspension. therefore, the pred rides the trails a lot better than the z400. i am about 6 foot and 240 pounds, so the bigger bike fits me better also. i know nothing at all about the yzf450 just my 2 cents - james

The Predator is higher quality parts than the Z and the Yamaha is really RACE Quad only. I did lots of research before I got mine and narrowed down to the Raptor (YFZ wasn't out yet) and Predator. I choose the Predator hands down soon as I went to the dealer and inspected the components on each quad. The predator has very good suspension, Wheels, axle. There are some odd things about it but It felt the best for me sitting on it also. It has tremendous power in mid range 3rd and 4th gears. I think even now with the YFZ the predator is still the best all around Quad for riding everyday and a sport quad. The Z quad is out of date now and doesn't hold up against the predator or newer YFZ. The only other quad I would maybe wait to see is the new Honda that's coming out. But it's not here and no one has seen it so no idea of how it will do. THe YFZ has lot of Hype but is really getting put in a catagory all by itself for now as stock Race Quad and not for riding on trails or beating on a weekend. Even Yamaha is positioning for that and says to buy a Raptor for everyday riding. Well, I've seen many Raptors out riding now and I'm sure glad I got the Predator, it's just a much better quad all round.

Buy the predator! I dont know anything about the "Z", but I did test drive the YFZ before I brought home my preddy. The YFZ was fast for sure, but it didn't handle near as well as the Polaris. Now that I have been riding the Predator for a couple of weeks now, I believe it to be just as fast as the YFZ, but handles SOOOOO much better! I ride in the moubtains at about 10,000 + ft through some extremely hard stuff at times, and it is great, It beats the YFZ hands down. If you get a Predator and don't like it,(which won't happen!) I'll buy it!! Crypto
