4 Places I have ridden and their reviews:

1.) Hollister Hills, Hollister CA - Huge, tons of trails and camping. A lot of beginner / intermediate riding. Better for sport quads, too bumpy and long for 4wd. Very crowded.

2.) Frank Raines Park, Patterson CA - Nice camping, trails are intermediate to extremely hard. Good place to ride 4wd quads due to ruts and steep hill (coming down using engine braking). Not very crowded.

3.) Carnegie, Livermore / Tracy CA - OK area, smallest of the 4, some steep hills, more motorcycles than ATV's. Can get crowded. High beginner to Advance. Better for Sport ATV's.

4.) Date Flat - near Yosemite / Groveland CA - AWESOME, Great Views, Intermediate to Advanced, Great Place for 4wd. The beauty of this place is some of the incredibly steep hills are rock but they look like dirt, you can climb right up these things. You can really get into trouble here if you don't watch it and can get lost in the back hills, this is the wilderness and not many people go here, but it is awesome, well worth the drive.

Ranking from Best to Worst #1 Date Flat (A+), #2 Hollister (A-), #3 Frank Raines (B+), #4 Carnegie (B-/C+)

Hey, awesome review, Kevin! I'll keep that in mind in case I ever venture back into Kalifornia for riding. Somehow I've subconsciously associated Kalifornia with "No Riding" so it may take a while. :)

Hollister Hills is an excellent place to go. One way trails, gear store, showers, and fairly safe and fun for anyone, any age, any skill level. It just gets pretty packed on weekends.

Mountain trails are excellent at both Cow Mountain, outside of Ukiah, and Stoneyford, just out of Maxwell hwy 5. You can ride all day, everyday for a week and won't see they same trail. Just be mindful of dunebuggies coming the other direction. They hit hard. Came across a rave party once in Stoney, in the middle of nowhere. Generators pumping up pro sound equip and some lights. You never know what story you'll take home.

I ventured off in Black Springs a bit for a couple of hours. Hwy 4 east of Arnold, B-4 Bear Valley. Seemed to be pretty bear. I only came across one other guy on a very busy weekend. Some beautiful scenery going out atop ridgelines. Nothing too steep. quite a few places to open it up. My Pred seemed to run fine there with factory jets at 6500 feet.

Middle Creek AKA CC camp is up north of Clear Creek. Hard tight trails. Very technical. Hours and Hours of riding. Views are excelent. I flipped my Prdator twice there.
