Hi everyone. This is my 2nd Polaris. I have a 250 trailblazer as well. So i just picked up a 500. Got a good deal. Will not fire. Has spark and 130 compression. Was told timimg was checked. But not exhaust valves. I have not even messed with it yet. I did notice it will on cranking spit oil into airbox. That has me worried as maybe rings are shot. So my attempt to narrow it down. Try to bump start by pulling it. If exhaust valves are to tight. It should fire this way. Electrical...wire starter direct to a switch separate from system. Was just curious if anyone else has had similar problems? Or has anyone fixed the problem i am having. Thanks for any advice or help.
A leak-down test is best due to the built-in decompression stuff. Careful not to over pressurize it. The manual says 85-90psi. Something may be wrong with the decompression mechanism. 130 seems a little low on an engine without one. Did you try a lil shot of Bill Cosby date in a can?? (ether) If you feel the valves are too tight I wouldn't run it. Id look into that first. Are you sure it's oil? Is the level too high? I had mine sit thru a rainstorm once uncovered and it got a bunch of water in the exhaust. Had to remove it and pull the plug to pump out all the water. If there is oil/water in there it could cause the compression to be the 130lbs instead of the 85-90 even with the decomp working. Pull the plug and crank it over and see what comes out, plus you can check the spark while you are at it. Try to eliminate the things you mentioned. Why separate the starter from the system? Always eliminate the obvious stuff and fix it so you have a better chance of diagnosis.
