ryan or somebody please make this a sticky....id say we answer this question enough to make it worth while. Lets keep the posting to just K&N part numbers so that people can find these easier.

For drag racing applications where maximum filter size is required i run a
#ru2820 or #ru1480

For mx racing applications where a smaller filter is better because it fits under the seat better i run a #ru1460 or #rb0700

anyone else who runs different part numbers post em up so all these new guys dont have to search for days and days...unfortuneately i cant post pics bc i have do digital camera....so maybe others will be able to

Here's what I'm currently running, I'll try and get the p/n tonight. It fits pretty well, the seat locks it right down to the frame.

I run one that looks about like yours Fatty. I run a RU-1770.

web, did you need a special boot or anything to get that to mount up to your carb.? i'm wanting to do that to my tld...did you notice any power gains from it as well.? thanks, joe

does anyone have the part number for the one rath uses

Yea Joseph, that particular filter comes with a 2" inlet already built in and angled at 20* so it doesn't sit straight out. Really sweet gains after putting that on and jetting with my PP pipe.

I have a couple questions about this. I noticed if i do this method it leaves my filter open to the elements. I ride in northern ohio where there are alot of creeks and streams. Im worried about the filter getting wet. I see in the one pic they have some type of filter cover? Can I get one of these and just clean it after every ride? Where would I get one?
My last question is about tuning. Because I would be dramatically increasing the intake flow wouldnt I have to have the bike retuned?
Thanks for any help!

The civic intake might be the answer to your problem. it can be cut down to fit between the carb and the bottom of the stock air box I think. Some of the old threads have pics of the installation.

If you look at peoples signature for the civic intake and then look in their profile for pics you might see some pics of the finished product.

I live near you and ride the same type of trails and don't think running without something under the filter is an option. Too much mud and water around here.

Webopper, I know this thread is pretty old, have you had any problem at all with the filter falling off? I primarily ride hard at the dunes and have heard (through the dealership trying to sell me a $200 intake kit) that these filters will tend to fall if in rough riding. If you havn't had this problem I'm buying it.

Thanks!!

No CrewDawg, I have never had any problem with the filter coming loose or falling off. The filter I use -- the RU-1770 -- has a rubber boot on it and it fits nicely over the stock carb. Once you clamp that thing down with a hose clamp, it shouldn't come off. I've ridden dunes, deserts, and MX and not had a problem...

Cool, thanks for the info. I'm jumping onto the K&N website now to order one. You dont know the part number for the pre-filter do you? I want one of those as well.

Thanks again!

Cool I bought the filter and the wrap. The part number for the wrap is RU-1470PK which fits filter part number RU-1770.

I bought it off of www.ajusa.com with free shipping for a total of $38.00. Much cheaper than that $200 kit from the dealer, now to knock out the carb mod......

Thanks for all the info Webopper!

Yep, you're gonna like that. Make sure you check your jetting, that will lean ya out with that filter.

#14 ·
Will do, the local dealer is gonna do the carb mod and re-jet my bike for me for $60. Talked to a guy yesterday about that, I'll get this installed first so he is jetting this mod as well.

Everyone says that this clamp on and the carb mod are night and day difference over running the stock airbox and stock carb.....I cant wait to feel the difference, I'll keep you posted on how I like it.

I'm also going to start running a 50-50 mix of premium pump gas and 110 race fuel to compliment my 12.5:1 Piston, with these mods hopefully I'll be screaming!

Hi Web, i've just ordered the same filter and wrap for my tld. I've just took out the stock air box , theres a pipe which runs from the bottom of the air box to the top of the gear box. I guess its a breather pipe ? Do i just tie it up out off the way ? Also going to rejet carb with a dyno jet kit, what mj do you think i should start with ? From reading up i'm thinking about 175 mj. cheers

You guys- the K&N Filter that we use is not an exact fit- and even when you bend and clamp it on you are risking sucking dirt- mud water through your carb...that is why we designed the billet flange to go with our Intake set-up so it is a "EXACT" fit.

a clamp on is actualy pretty well pretected. look at your intake book after you ride. mine raerly ever has any mud on it and i go threw footpeg deep mud sometimes.

I like my Rath setup but am going to look at this stuff.

Here is a chart of most of the K&n filters that fit our bikes with the stock and aftermarket carbs.
