Are the carburetors the same on the Polaris Magnum 425 and the Polaris Sportsman 500 non HO? If so what years are the same? I have a 1996 Polaris Magnum and my carb is shot.I was wondering if a carb of a sportsman 500 would work, but would only certain years work. Is there a difference between the 1995 sportsman carb and the 2003 sportsman carb? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I just looked at the parts from Polaris, and they use some parts in other carbs and not in others. From what I have found, the pre-HO carbs should work. Take a look around here at the part numbers and cross-references.
http://parts.polarisind.com/Browse/Browse.asp What exactly do you mean by shot? Yes there is a difference between the 95 and 03 carb since they started the HO models with the 40mm carb in 01.

I bought the magnum recently. I bought it as a project. I was told that it ran and the four wheel drive didn't work. Well I got it running and gas came pouring out of the exhaust and the carb was leaking. All the seals are wasted, and the needles and jets need to be replaced. The carb is actually cracked also, so instead of wasting my money on a rebuild kit I was looking into buying a used carb on ebay, and I am trying to find a carb that will work even if I have to rebuild it.
