Hi All,
My son has an 04 predator 90. We were on a ride over the new years weekend and it began to die intermittently. When it would die we could wait a few minutes and it would start again. Then it finally died and would not start. I tried a new plug and no luck. I brought it home and after reading many posts decided to change the stator. No luck... I tried checking the spark by removing the plug and with it connected to the coil wire cranking it over with it grounded to the frame and could see no spark. I checked the tether and on of switch but could find nothing wrong. I drained and cleaned the carb just to be sure it was getting fuel it is. The starter will crank great just no spark. What do you think the next thing to try would be? I don't have a meter to test anything (or the understanding of how to). Would coil be the next thing? Thanks in advance for any help. |

if it has spark but it is not a bright blue consistent spark i would try a new plug first. next i would check the compression. if those are both good then i would start checking grounds, and your coil wire.

Update: well tried new plug and coil. No luck... Cranks and cranks but no fire. Still after all the cranking the plug is dry. I tore down the carb again and cleaned every jet. It is getting fuel. I am stumped looks like it off to the dealer hope it's not to serious. This little quad has been in the family for four seasons...

Don't take it to the dealer yet. I had sort of the same issue. I cleaned all the elect. connections none of them are water proof. Low volts means weak spark. I dipped mine in tarnex then washed with water and put dielectric grease on each one. You will also need to clean the stater/flywheel. Best to pull it out but you can spray with simple green let is sit and wash with water. Do it a couple times then use some sand paper on the flywheel where the pickup for the coil is. Thats the raised parts on the side.
