I live in Oxford, AL and ride primarily at Kentuck ORV area in the national forrest. There is a motocross park just north of Montgomery called Wexohatchee Off Road park with a motocross track and some trails. The track is ok but was not in that good of shape last time I was there. There are several miles of trails mostly tight technical stuff with a few open areas. There is another park north of Montgomery in Maplesville however I am not sure exactly where it is. There is also an area that folks ride off of I-65 just north of Birmingham at exit 175 (I think) I have never ridden there, but I see folks there all the time. In northwest Alabama there is a off road area in the National Forrest I can't remember the name of it but if you go to the National Forrest Web Page they have it listed there. In north central Alabama there is an area just outside of Huntsville as well. In northeast Alabama which is where Oxford is we have the Kentuck ORV area in the national forrest with about 50+ miles of trails that are well maintained and a lot of fun to ride. They are two way trails so you have to watch out for oncomming traffic. I think it is one of the best places I have ever ridden. The trails have jumps built in, some berms and the terrain goes form fast smooth areas to slower rocky sections, with plenty of mud when it rains. It is closed until the first or second weekend in April for trail maintenace. I am going up there to work next wekeend will let you know how it goes is you are curious. There is also an area just outside of Gadsden called Tabor trails. I rode up there last year they have abot 15 miles of trails that are fairly tight and technical with a couple of open areas. There are also several mud-bogs for the four by crowd. They are only open every other weekend and by appointment for groups.

GTPred,

Great review. Thanks. Maybe we can hook up when I get to Montgomery. I like sand but it looks like I'll have to appreciate mud!

Mr Predator,

When you get to Montgomery let me know we will get together and ride. We are trying to organize a big ride when Kentuck opens and also a trip to Tennessee to the Coal Creek Area.

There is a place in Birmingham call the hoover met lots of trails, I have heard that if you can find the right trail you can go all the way over to the boal in Helena. There is also a place close to where I live it is called the Rockford Men's Club it is 2 miles North of Rockford,AL on hwy. 231 & 21 North. Ride starts at 9:00am and ends around 5:00pm This ride is for the experienced only. Novices may experience difficulty.$15 for each ATV or bike. 26 miles of trails, creeks and hills.

Alpred, both the hoover met and the "bowl"are closed off to any off-road riding.the met area has been developed so much recently that there is hardly any woods left there now.the "bowl" which is in the area of the cahaba-valley wildlife refuge has been closed to off-road too.i was at the "bowl"on the last weekend of it being open,it was shut down due to numerous problems(injuries, stolen cars dumped there, forest fires, and the last thing(s) to finnish it off were two seperate murders....neither of which had anything to do with us off-road riders).i still haven't seen the logic in shutting out the few remaining wilderness areas to us that appreciate it,i'm sure the drug dealers, car thieves and killers will obey the no tresspassing and go to somewhere else for their business.

the ride from the bowl to the met and back was a regular ride for us too do,it was a pretty kewl ride...pipelines,creekcrossings,firelane type trails and you could either cross over the cahaba river on a train tressle or if the river was not up to deep, cross it under the tressle.

there are still a few places to ride close to b'ham, but all of them are on private land.the remaining places are subject to be off-limits at any time and are ride at your own risk concerning tresspassing.
