the oil level on the predator

ok here it goes everytime that I plan to go riding I check my oil level first and top off if necessary then go ride. Well the last time that I went out riding I would say we were riding for about 3 to 4 hrs or so off and on then I came home and parked the quad. 2 weeks later I decide to check the oil for the **** of it and noticed that it needed almost a qaurt of oil. now how in the **** does a quad with 19 hrs on it burn that much oil in 3 to 4 hrs of off and on riding. can anyone tell me if they have experienced this and is this normal? thanks for any help or advice on this matter. also the quad does not show any signs of this like smoke or engine knock or loss of power the quad runs great.thanks again scott

Are you checking the level while it's warm or cold? I've noticed that right after I change the oil it's at the bottom mark. After warming up, the level is right on. I don't know if that's the way it's susposed to be done, but it works for me. Also, my level was exactly the same from my last oil change to the one that I did today.

I've noted the same thing..........

while tuning and checking out my 170 main jet and K&N clamp on, I checked my oil too before and after runs........

HECK, one check it was just a smidge below full, and after a hard run but even sitting for 5-10 minutes, it was a full inch over the full mark and almost at the very bottom of the fill neck by the cap.......

Be SURE not to over fill the oil reserve!

wonder if its restricted by either the oil filter or oil pump? I'll have to check the oil passage path in the factory service manual.

what have other preddy owners noticed?

hey heapster I checked it when it was cold. Like I said I always check the oil level right before I load it on the trailer for a day of riding and I have never seen it like this but since I filled it last night I havent even started it up yet or rode it so I will do that as soon as I can and be sure to let you know what I found after putting that much in it

And yes it would be nice to hear from other owners

my level seems to jump around also, but the manual does tell you to check the level after a 1 minute idle. this seems odd to me but there must be a reason!

Check it warm, the oil will drain out of the reservoir into the crankcase after sitting giving you a false reading when you check it that way. Start it up and run it a few minutes, then check it...
